Objectives of sponsorship program
•Send destitute and disabled children to school by providing necessary materials including school fee and Improve the destitute childrens' living condition.

Up-to-date information
•Two sponsored students have graduated from marketing and nursing colleges;
• “Fanos for Ethiopia” an organization from London is sponsoring 26 children;
• WeSMCO staff are sponsoring 3 children by donating a minimum of 1% from their salary;
• Various individuals from Ethiopia and abroad are sponsoring 54 children. Eden from USA and her friends sponsored 14 children.
• All in all a total of 155 children are getting support.

Donation and services
• The minimum donation granted for a child is $25.00 (about Birr 225.00)/month;
• Yearly donation for the purchase of uniforms are mostly covered with the willingness of the sponsor;
• Most of the financial support is used for education and the remaining for food and health services;
• Parents/guardians of sponsored children are provided with professional advice and support;
• Birr 10.00 out of the monthly donation will be deposited in the bank account opened by the name of the sponsored child and their caretakers. This is to encourage saving & to cover extra ordinary expenditures and
• 10% of the donation is deducted for administration cost.

Monitroring and Evaluation mechanisms
• Class attendance sheet prepared by WeSMCO is distributed to their respective schools and collected at the end of the month;
• Home to home visit is made regularly to check their living conditions and discuss with their parents/guardians;
• All sponsored children and youngsters should submit their school/college certificates at the end of every semester and detailed information about the progress of the children enclosed with a copy of their school certificates are send to their respective sponsors.

Major Selection Criteria
• Destitute family, and/or Orphan, and/or Street child,
• Student,
• Less than 18 years old and selection is done by the committee.

Obituary: WeSMCO's treasured sponsor Amsale Birhanu tragically passed away on February 20, 2009. She was a sponsor of two orphaned children (Tigist and Bisrat) and made a significant change in their lives.  Read more
